The evening will celebrate the Foundation’s support of the life-changing mission and impact of the Los Angeles Public Library.

Elizabeth Strout

2024 Literary Award Honoree

Elizabeth  Strout is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Lucy by the Sea; Oh William!,  which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize;  Olive, Again;  Anything Is Possible,  winner of the Story Prize;  My Name Is Lucy Barton; The Burgess Boys;  Olive Kitteridge, winner of the Pulitzer Prize;  Abide with Me;  and  Amy and Isabelle,  winner of the Los Angeles Times  Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction and the Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize.  Tell Me Everything is her tenth book. She has also been a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Orange Prize in London. She lives in Maine.

Ela and Nikhil Jhaveri

2024 Light of Learning Honorees

For nearly three decades, Ela and Nikhil Jhaveri have been deeply devoted to championing the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) through their involvement in the Library Foundation of Los Angeles (LFLA) and The Council, the LFLA’s premier membership group. Together they have hosted five Literary Feasts dinners, and Ela has served as treasurer and secretary of The Council’s advisory board and served as president from 2020-2022. The Jhaveris inspire others with their philanthropic leadership and commitment to the transformational power of the LAPL and its programs. Ela and Nikhil reside in Palos Verdes and are proud parents to two children and doting grandparents to two grandchildren.

2024 Literary Awards Emcee

Alex Cohen is the Emmy award winning National Political Anchor at Spectrum News One. She has spent more than 25 years covering Southern California for NPR, “Marketplace,” KPCC-LAist and KQED in San Francisco. She is a frequent patron of the LA Public Library Atwater Village Branch and co-author of the book “Down & Derby: The Insider’s Guide to Roller Derby.”
