Eileen Sever was a beloved, respected, and deeply valued Librarian. Her long career with the Los Angeles Public Library started in 1970 and then she became Senior Librarian of the Business and Economics Department in 1977. She transferred to the Palms-Rancho Park Branch Library in 1979, where she worked until her retirement in 1998. She served for more than two decades following her retirement as a substitute Librarian in the History & Genealogy Department. When asked what kept her going as a Librarian, she said, “I love questions.”
To memorialize Eileen’s life, service, and dedication, her daughter Anita has partnered with the Library Foundation of Los Angeles to establish the Eileen M. Sever Memorial Fund. Furthermore, to honor this Fund and Eileen’s lifelong love of travel, the Travel Book Collection of Central Library shall be named the Eileen M. Sever Memorial Travel Collection, inspiring a love of adventure and discovery for generations to come.
Your donation to the Fund will honor Eileen’s love of travel and her steadfast service and commitment to the Los Angeles Public Library by supporting the preservation and expansion of the Collection and producing programming, events, outreach, and other engagement opportunities in the History & Genealogy Department where Eileen proudly served.
Please help this fund reach its goal of $50,000 to honor Eileen’s extraordinary legacy.
