Evelyn Hoffman Memorial Fund

In memory of Evelyn Hoffman, the founding Executive Director of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, we have established a fund to support children’s literacy at the Los Angeles Public Library. The work of the Library Foundation was her great passion and proudest achievement. When Evelyn retired in 2007, she was recognized by the City of Los Angeles and LFLA with the Light of Learning Award for transforming the Los Angeles Public Library into one of the country’s greatest urban libraries and one of the most respected non-profits in Los Angeles.

Her accomplishments include:

  • Founding the Council of the Library Foundation,
  • Implementing a speaker series that became ALOUD, a cultural force in Los Angeles
  • Creating the Young Literati membership group, and
  • Expanding LAPL’s resources and services to more communities throughout Los Angeles.

This fund will honor the remarkable work of Evelyn and will support youth throughout Los Angeles by providing critical programming and educational support.

2/22/24 Update: We have reached 33.3% of our $50,000 goal.

2/28/24 Update: We have reached 64% of our $50,000 goal.

3/18/24 Update: We have reached and exceeded our $50,000 goal! The Evelyn Hoffman Memorial Fund will be permanently endowed to support children’s literacy in perpetuity, ensuring that Evelyn’s legacy will always be a part of the Los Angeles Public Library. The fund remains open to contributions.
