Please join us for a celestial event to celebrate the opening of a series of live poetry readings featuring poetic voices of Los Angeles. View the solar eclipse while listening to a live poetry reading by Alyesha Wise: Bring a chair, lay on a blanket on the lawn, or visit the library as poetry vibrates through the air! Eclipse viewing glasses available to participants while supplies last. 

Alyesha Wise is an American contemporary poet, writer, lyricist, and activist based in Los Angeles.

Alyesha Wise

The author of Carnival (NOT A CULT media), Alyesha Wise is a poet, teaching artist & TEDx speaker from Camden, N.J. Alyesha currently resides in Los Angeles, CA and is the co-founder of Spoken Literature Art Movement, an organization providing poetry education and extensive programming for poets. Alyesha served as the Hollywood (Da Poetry Lounge) Slam Team head coach for the last two years, co-coaching both teams to final stage at The National Poetry Slam. In addition, she served as the Los Angeles (Get Lit) Youth Slam Team co-coach from 2014-2017. Ms. Wise is also a 2-time Women of the World Poetry Slam finalist and has been featured on different platforms and publications such as Huffington Post, Bustle, Afropunk, PBS, POPSUGAR, Buzzfeed, Free Speech TV and more. She has collaborated with the ACLU of Southern California, Brave New Films and additional major platforms, having featured in the Google Interstellar Project, in conjunction with the hit film Interstellar. Ron Howard once wrote about Alyesha’s work, “Very Powerful.”

ALOUD in Community

ALOUD in Community takes the LFLA’s public programming to select LAPL branch libraries, featuring workshops and other interactive programs for all ages.

Where does this event take place?

The poetry reading will take place outside adjacent to the Arroyo Seco Regional Branch Library at the Highland Park Recreation Center Playground.

Where should I park?

Parking lot is located behind the library on Piedmont Ave. Additional street parking is also available. Bike Rack Available.
