Frequently asked questions

Rick Atkinson

The winner of Pulitzer Prizes for both History and Journalism, Rick Atkinson is one of America’s most acclaimed historians and has long been admired for his deeply researched, stunningly vivid narrative histories. His best-selling Liberation Trilogy, a magisterial history of Europe’s liberation in World War II, earned him widespread critical praise and a Pulitzer Prize for History for An Army at Dawn.

Now comes the extraordinary first volume of Atkinson’s greatly anticipated Revolution Trilogy; a new series about the American Revolution. The British Are Coming: The War for America, Lexington to Princeton, 1775-1777 tells the grand story of who we are as a country, where we came from as a people, and what we believe in as a nation. Employing his exhaustive research techniques and celebrated storytelling ability to show how the Revolution not only begat a nation, but also gave birth to the singular American temperament of aspiration and idealism, Atkinson gives stirring new life to the first act of our country’s creation drama.

Born in Munich, Germany, Atkinson is the son of a U.S. Army officer and grew up on military posts. He holds a Master of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Chicago. He currently lives in Washington, D.C.
