Show Your Support for National Library Week!

Libraries strengthen communities and transform lives every day.

April 8-12 is National Library Week – a week of generosity where library lovers across the nation give back in support of the library systems that have been there to serve, educate, inspire, and welcome individuals at all stages of life.

Now more than ever, the Library is a trusted resource for so many – from early literacy programs for young children and tutoring and college prep support for students, to cultural and educational programs for adults, outreach and services for our neighbors experiencing homelessness, and more  the Library has something for every Angeleno at every age.  Now is the time to give back and support the Library that is always there when you need it the most. Please donate in honor of National Library Week!

The Los Angeles Public Library’s impact on our communities is as wide-ranging as it is essential. Over the last year, while serving the largest and most diverse urban population of any library system in the country, funding from the Library Foundation of Los Angeles and donors like you helped make the following possible:

  • As part of our We Read Together program, children’s librarians delivered 2,809 early literacy programs attended by 68,521 children and adults.
  • More than 24,500 students in need of Online Tutoring services were able to access one-on-one academic support sessions.
  • LAPL’s Cybernauts, trained tech staff, were able to provide 21,315 support sessions to patrons in need of computer assistance across 37 library locations (in 90% low-income neighborhoods) and remotely.

Please join us in celebrating the life-changing work of the Los Angeles Public Library by donating $25, $50, $75, or more in honor of National Library Week!

What makes your library special to you? Read below to learn what Members of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles have told us about why they choose to support the Los Angeles Public Library:

  • “There are few things more important to democracy and building equity than public libraries.”
  • “I simply could not survive without LAPL. I read every day, watch movies on Kanopy, and more. Our library is vital to the community, and I love that with our help, people of all ages can learn to read, have a safe place to go, and even get a free meal for kids in the summer.”
  • “I am a library volunteer in the adult literacy program; I see how much the branch libraries contribute to the well-being of their communities.”
Show your Library some love! Have you had a life-changing moment at the Library? Would you like to express your gratitude for the invaluable role our libraries play in communities across Los Angeles? We invite you to share a message of gratitude for your local library, a helpful librarian, or LAPL staff member who went above and beyond, or tell us your favorite library memory.
