Booker Prize–winning author Marlon James comes to the ALOUD stage in conversation with writer, producer, and creative Darnell L. Moore with The Disappearers, his riveting new novel exploring queer life, survival, and belonging in 1980s Jamaica.

Marlon James
Marlon James is the Booker Prize–winning and New York Times bestselling author of A Brief History of Seven Killings; the bestselling and National Book Award finalist Black Leopard, Red Wolf; as well as the bestselling Moon Witch, Spider King; The Book of Night Women; and John Crow’s Devil. In addition to the Booker Prize, James’s novels have won the American Book Award, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature, and the Los Angeles Times Ray Bradbury Prize for Science Fiction, and have been finalists for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the NAACP Image Award. In 2019, Time magazine named him one of the one hundred most influential people in the world. Born in Jamaica, James lives in New York City.
Darnell L. Moore
Darnell L. Moore is a celebrated author, producer, and creative from Camden, NJ. His memoir No Ashes in the Fire garnered a Lambda Literary Award and was recognized as a New York Times 100 Notable Book. Darnell has been a writer-in-residence at Columbia University and a Senior Fellow at USC. He most recently served as Netflix’s VP of Inclusion Strategy and currently runs Six Zero Nine Creatives, a boutique creative consulting agency whose name is an homage to his hometown. He’s hard at work on his second book, tentatively titled I Can Show You Better Than I Can Tell You: Black Men Freeing Ourselves and he’s finishing the final season of his award-winning podcast, which is titled, Being Seen.
