Frankenstein filmmaker announces a $50,000 match for benefit event proceeds.

LOS ANGELES — The Library Foundation of Los Angeles (LFLA) announced that the Frankenstein: Guillermo Del Toro in Conversation with Ken Sanders benefit event raised $100,000 in support of the Los Angeles Public Library, thanks to an additional $50,000 matching gift from Guillermo Del Toro.
Presented by Netflix in partnership with Rare Books LA and LFLA, the sold-out event on October 3 raised proceeds to benefit the Library Foundation of Los Angeles in its mission to provide critical support for the Los Angeles Public Library, including the long-term recovery of the LAPL Palisades Branch, which was destroyed in the January fires.
From the stage, Del Toro announced his personal contribution while in conversation with antiquarian bookseller Ken Sanders about his forthcoming adaptation of Frankenstein, to be released in theaters October 17 and Netflix November 7. At the event, Del Toro shared his reverence for Mary Shelley’s timeless novel as a meditation on creation and humanity and spoke movingly about books and libraries as sanctuaries of imagination and memory.
“We are deeply grateful to Guillermo del Toro for his generosity,” said Stacy Lieberman, president and CEO of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles. “A master storyteller, he empowers other LA storytellers with this gift, which will help transform lives and fuel dreams through a range of educational programs and services at the Los Angeles Public Library.”
The benefit event was presented at the Netflix Tudum Theater in Hollywood during Rare Books LA Weekend, a two-day celebration of antiquarian books, maps, fine prints, book arts, and more at Union Station Los Angeles.
