Save the Date: Library Foundation20th Anniversary Celebration

Dear readers,

One of our big initiatives as of late has been the planning of our 20th Anniversary Celebration, which is planned for the evening of Sunday, September 23rd.

Some of you may have attended our past Awards Dinner events, where we have honored philanthropists, and authors such as Walter Mosley, Harper Lee, Susan Sontag, and John Updike. This year, we are honoring Sharon and Nelson Rising, who are not only some of the most generous, dedicated supporters to the Library Foundation, but Sharon is the President of the Library Foundation Council. (Our literary awardee has yet to be announced)

This year’s celebration is obviously special because it marks the 20th anniversary of our organization. It’s a big milestone, and we’ve all been reflecting on how the Foundation began, out of the 1986 arson fires that damaged the Central Library. It has been fascinating to take stock of our organizational history, and remember the initiatives that have brought us where we are today. Our President, Ken Brecher, loves to think about our future, and what the Library will look like in 20 years (and beyond!)

We’ll be posting more about the event as more details unfold, but for now, Save the Date! We would love to see you there.
