A book, wine, pajamas – at my house this is always a party. On March 10, 2019, staying home and reading a book can help raise thousands of dollars for the Library Foundation of Los Angeles and make a huge difference in the life of our city’s libraries. A ticket to the Stay Home and Read a Book Ball can take you anywhere in the world, right from your living room.

Lisa See | Honorary Chair

I first started going to the Los Angeles Public Library when I was a very little girl. I loved the Children’s Room with the beautiful murals. I would look through the books (I was still too young to read them!), while my mom studied. Over all these years, I’ve used the resources at the library to do research for my books. I wouldn’t be the woman, mother, or writer I am without our beautiful and inspiring library.

Jennifer Egan | Honorary Chair

Amazing news: You don’t have to get dressed up! Or make conversation! Or get stuck at a table for overlong speeches! You can curl up in bed with a book and thereby support teen programming so that future generations will still want to curl up in bed with books!

Glen Creason | Honorary Chair

For four decades I have sailed on the sea of books at Central Library. Thus perusing grand oceans of prose by the greats while shining the light of learning elsewhere. Staying at home and reading for me is the way a swimmer caught in a riptide feels when greeting dry land.

Charles Phoenix | Honorary Chair

I love to explore libraries, public and private. Books entertain us, teach us, transform us and connect us. There is nothing quite like the prize of discovering a great book – old or new. Maybe you’ve read it before, that’s fine too. I never feel guilty about buying books. They are my favorite gifts to give.

Morgan Parker | Honoray Chair

Honestly, I was probably going to stay home and read a book anyway! I will gladly choose reading at home over most other things. I have just the dress and just the Snuggie to wear over it.

T.K. Lê | Honorary Chair

The day after I quit my full-time job to focus on writing, the first thing I did was renew my library card. It is such a joy to be in conversation with so many literary inspirations– all for free. And remotely, from the comfort of my chair, and flanked by my two cats. I love the library.

Amanda Gorman | Honorary Chair

Curling up at home with a great book? Supporting L.A. Public Library’s programs for youth at the same time? Now I call that a ball! So grab a well-loved book, get comfy, and let’s #StayHomeandRead for our incredible public libraries.
